ANDREW COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT ANNUAL PROGRESS REPORT
Each year the Iowa Department of Education releases the annual Iowa School Performance Profile report for each school district/building across the state. In the 2024 report that was recently released the Andrew Community School District was recognized as a “Commendable” school district based on our student academic proficiency rates, student academic growth, and our performance on several other success indicators. All of these indicators are calculated in a formula that earns our school a total score that corresponds with one of six designations according to the table below.
Andrew Elementary Performance Overview - COMMENDABLE
Andrew Elementary earned a total of 478.17 points, out of a possible 700 total points. This equates to over 68% of total points, which is well above the state average of 61%. Our elementary school’s greatest gains were in the areas of math proficiency and math growth. Nearly 81% of our elementary students in grades 3-6 were proficient in the area of math according to the state assessment (Iowa State Assessment of Student Progress or ISASP). Our students' growth in the area of math also exceeded the state average by over sixteen percentage points.
Our elementary students slightly underperformed the state average growth for English Language Arts (reading and writing) by three percent. Our proficiency rate for English Language Arts is currently at 70%, just below the state average of nearly 73%.
In the area of Science, 68% of our students were proficient in this area of the statewide assessment, compared to only 62% proficiency across the entire state of Iowa.
Andrew Elementary’s overall performance was the highest it has been since the beginning of this annual report in 2018. In the recent report that was released our school earned over 68% of the total points available, compared the the next closest performance when we earned nearly 62% of total points in 2021.
Final Summary
As you can see in the data report, Andrew Elementary is trending in a positive direction. Currently, our district is continuing to invest in high quality professional learning for our educators. We have also made a substantial effort to invest in new, research based curriculum resources.
