Welcome Back Andrew Middle School Students and Families,
We are very excited about the 2017/2018 school year and the new learning that your students will be participating in with their teachers and fellow students. Our teachers have been working to plan a new Project Based Learning unit with essential questions such as: How do we feed the world? and Why do we need farms? We are looking forward to bringing in some local guest speakers, taking field trips as well as supporting the students in starting a small “school farm” so they can begin to explore and answer these questions.
In order to support students in their collaboration with each other, have more in-depth class discussions and provide differentiated small groups during these learning opportunities, our middle school students will be spending many of their classes in mixed grade groups. During students Project Based Learning, elective and homeroom blocks students will be in mixed-grade classes with 6th, 7th and 8th grade students.
During English Language Arts, Math and Science, our 6th and 7th grade students will be attending classes together and the 8th grade students will be attending these classes separately. When 6th and 7th grade students are together there will be two teachers co-teaching the class to support all students. Students will be learning and demonstrating their knowledge based on their their specific grade level specific standards.
We look forward to providing these collaborative learning opportunities for our students and believe this will provide an even more enriching educational experience for your student. Please let us know if you have any questions or would like to talk more about your child’s schedule for the ‘17/’18 school year.
