This role provides leadership, management, supervision, evaluation, coordination, and direction of all special education programs and services for students with disabilities. Responsibilities include strategic professional development, creating and managing budgets, monitoring compliance to meet state and federal mandates, and supporting equitable evidence-based practices and programming for academic growth and achievement, social-emotional learning, and behavior management within a multi-tiered system of supports framework. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Plans and implements program goals and objectives for the special education program PK-12th grade while maintaining an awareness of current laws, policies, and regulations pertaining to specific programs. Applies current research and techniques to ensure that all individuals with exceptional needs are appropriately identified, assessed, and provided appropriate education programs and services designed to meet their unique needs. Represents the School in legal proceedings, participates in IEP meetings, discussions, informal conferences, mediations, and due process hearings to resolve issues regarding special education students. Develops and maintains liaison with appropriate governmental agencies and relevant community groups and remains current on legislation pertaining to areas of special education. Recommends and manages the budget for special education programs. Assists in the development of policies and procedures related to special education. Performs regular program reviews and recommends changes in program, methodology, curriculum and/or procedures as necessary to increase rigor. Provides staff development for special education personnel. Participates in the selection of personnel for the Special Education Department. Maintains the confidentiality of information used in personnel issues and school functions. Disseminates information regarding special education to staff, students, parents, and the community. Serves as the custodian of special education records. Analyzes and secures contracted services and provides oversight. The Director ensures that the district/school education objectives are aligned to state frameworks and to instructional practices that yield the highest standards of student achievement and instructional excellence. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Support all aspects of district instructional and curriculum integration. Coordinate the development, implementation, and evaluation of the Comprehensive Curriculum Plan in buildings and the districts Supervise the administration and analysis of all state and local testing programs within the district, including the creation of an annual district-wide assessment calendar. Represent the school district in meetings and conferences related to curriculum, instruction and assessment Report periodically to the board on all curriculum matters as directed by the Superintendent. Coordinate and supervise the Instructional Support program for the district, including implementation of a consistent K-12 Response to Intervention (RTI) system. Coordinate the Teacher Induction Program and district orientation programs and activities of new teachers and administrators. Counsel with principals and teachers on matters of district-wide concerns in order to help them improve their effectiveness. Bring leadership and oversight in the area of best instructional practices to all staff by developing and delivering professional learning Supervise and evaluate Instructional Coaches Recommend a budget to the Superintendent to meet the objectives of this office and operate within the budget Attend and actively participate in professional association meetings and conferences at the local, county, state, and national levels. Promote and participate in public relations including the district website and web pages. Serve on district-wide committees as needed. Establish an open line of communication with the community. The Andrew Amvets are hosting a Memorial Day Breakfast on Sunday, May 25th from 7:30 to Noon at the Post #62 location (102 W. Cass Street in Andrew). They will be serving Eggs, Bacon, Hash Browns, Chipped Beef Gravy over Toast, Fruit, Cinnamon Roll, and Beverages. Adults are $12, kids 6-12 are $5, and 5 and under are free.

Andrew Families and Leadership Day Guests, We wanted to give you a heads up on what this day will look like, as we have changed the format a little bit. 9:00 - 10:30 - Assembly 10:30-11:45 - Lunch and Recess starting with PK-1, followed by 2nd/3rd grades, and 4th-6th grades. 12:00 - Meet in the New Gym to go over rotations 12:15 - 2:30 - Rotations 2:30 - You can sign your child out to go home with you or remain at school for the last hour.

There will be no after-school LEAP on Friday, May 9th.

Reminder for parents of LEAP students. Tomorrow is our movie day. If your child signed up for the movie, we will be back to school by 3:15. Please remember to pick up students by 3:30.

LEAP has some ninja warriors. Westside Park is definitely on our list for a return visit

Andrew Families, I am so excited to offer music lessons this summer, specifically in June. I understand that there are not many music-related opportunities around the area, so I am looking forward to hosting new music-related activities for your students here soon. I will be offering the services listed on the graphic attached. Any of these lesson types can be catered to your student's musical needs. You can schedule lessons for either once or twice a week; $20 for a half-hour or $30 for a full hour. Andrew Families, We sent out a message a month or two ago about an error on the calendar with the Spring Break date. We wanted to send a reminder message to inform you that Spring Break starts on Thursday, April 17, and goes through April 21st. We also have a teacher in-service day on Tuesday, April 22nd. Therefore, Andrew students will be off from Thursday, April 17th - Tuesday, April 22nd. Classes will resume on Wednesday, April 23rd, and this day will be an early out.

Andrew Families, A couple of weeks ago, we sent home papers about your child doing the MRA survey with their class. We sent home papers to fill out ONLY if you do not want your child to participate. We wanted to let you know that we plan on administering this survey starting on Monday, April 14th. Andrew School has given the MRA since 2012 and uses the information in this survey to target areas where we need to improve. The attached letter gives you more information. Passing this information along from ISU Extension and Outreach---We are excited to introduce the Iowa 4-H Statewide Fishing Club, this program is designed to engage students in grades 4-12 with Iowa’s aquatic ecosystems, fishing techniques, and environmental stewardship. This unique program helps youth step away from screens and into the great outdoors, where they can develop lifelong skills in fishing, fish identification, lure tying, water safety, and more. Through hands-on activities, webinars, and tournaments, members will build confidence and appreciation for nature while connecting with other young anglers across the state.
